Thermometers

A thermometer is a device that measures temperature by using different principles. The word thermometer is derived from two different words “Thermo” meaning heat and “Meter” that means measure. Thermometers can be divided into two different groups; primary thermometers and secondary thermometers. From the primary thermometers, any temperature can be estimated without using any other equipment. Secondary thermometers are widely used due to their easiness and convenience. The secondary thermometers are more sensitive than the primary ones. The secondary thermometers can be calibrated very easily as compared to the primary thermometers.

There are many types of thermometers, available in the market. The laser thermometer is well known and very famous in the world these days. The laser thermometers are also called infrared thermometers. The laser thermometers can easily measure temperature of any substance. In this thermometer, laser is used to measure the temperature. There are verities of laser temperature sensing devices available in the market.

Water thermometer is also very famous in this modern era. The water thermometer was invented by Galileo Galilei in 1953. Galileo used contraction of air to draw the water up to the tube. Galileo used alcohol in the glass, in which some balls were floating in the water to measure the differences in the temperature. A water thermometer is filled with the water instead of mercury, for ascertaining the precise temperature. This thermometer can measure up to 39F or 4 Celsius.



Mercury thermometers were created by a German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. Mercury thermometer contains mercury in its tube. There is a tube of mercury at the end of the thermometer that contains some mercury. The expansion and contraction of the volume of mercury is changed with the rise and fall of temperature.

The Taylor thermometer is a digital thermometer. Taylor thermometer has a programmable control panel. This thermometer is usually designed to measure the temperature of cooking. The stainless steel of Taylor thermometer goes into the food and measures temperature. Basal thermometer is a body temperature thermometer. The Basal thermometers can record all the previous readings very easily. The Basal thermometers offer temperature reading of 1/100th degree Celsius.
